Amid worries over slow purchase of tickets ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women World Cup, FIFA has announced it is giving away 20,000 free tickets in four cities of co-host New Zealand- Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Dunedin.

The worries are coming off the heels of FIFA chief women’s football officer Sarai Bareman’s concerns that it was glaringly hard to attract fans to New Zealand because of the country’s lower profile in sporting activities.

Consequently, Xero, the official partner of this year’s edition, is offering complimentary tickets totalling up to 5,000.

To salvage the situation, former New Zealand Prime Minister is showing interests and calls for fans to come show a massive support for the Football Ferns.

On her Instagram page, she writes, “My feed is going to be dominated by a lot of football chat these next few weeks — not because I’m an expert, but because I’m so excited that New Zealand is hosting such a massive event.”

“There are still tickets to some games across New Zealand [Auckland, Dunedin, Wellington and Hamilton] so whether you’re an amateur enthusiast or an expert, this is your reminder to jump online and join in!”

New Zealand are potted in a group that has Norway, Philippines and Switzerland.
