Troops neutralise 3 terrorists, arrest 2 fake security operatives in Plateau

Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Enduring Peace have recorded significant successes in Plateau State, neutralising three terrorists and arresting two suspects masquerading as security operatives.

In a swift late-night operation on Thursday at Dutse Uku in Jos North Local Government Area, the troops responded to a distress call over sporadic shooting in the community.

A statement signed by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, and made available to newsmen in Jos on Friday, said soldiers intercepted and arrested the two suspects, who were clad in tactical black uniforms.

The suspects were allegedly setting residential properties ablaze and orchestrating violence in the area but are now in military custody, the statement added.

“Two persons who sustained gunshot wounds during the incident were evacuated to a medical facility, where they are in stable condition.”

The statement noted that the arrests debunk claims of military complicity in the recent Jos North unrest.

It stressed that criminal elements have been using deceptive attire to perpetrate atrocities and tarnish the image of the Armed Forces.

In a related development in Karem, Wase Local Government Area, troops disrupted a large movement of terrorists on motorcycles.

When engaged by the military, the insurgents fled after a firefight, during which three terrorists were neutralised.

This came barely hours after the Chief of Army Staff ordered the deployment of a battalion plus specialised counter-terrorism troops to the state on Thursday morning.

Military authorities described the fresh deployment as a game-changer that has strengthened the security architecture and restored proactive control in volatile areas.

The troops have vowed to deal ruthlessly with hoodlums, insurgents and criminal syndicates operating in the state.

“Troops of Operation Enduring Peace remain resolute in their mission to eliminate all threats to public peace,” the statement added.

They called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest security agencies.
