A suited man stands in a foggy forest alone.

Set at West Point in 1830, The Pale Blue Eye unravels a string of murders plaguing the storied military academy. As suspicion looms over the cadets, a local detective named Augustus Landor (Christian Bale), arrives at the scene to put a stop to things with the help of none other than Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling).

Based on the novel by Louis Bayard, The Pale Blue Eye’s latest trailer is a sinister minute brimming with cryptic voiceovers, murders on the field, so much dim lighting, and a black crow to top off all of this gothic goodness.

The star studded cast also includes Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toby Jones, Timothy Spall, and Robert Duvall.

The Pale Blue Eye releases in select theaters on Dec. 23, and on Netflix Jan. 6.
