If you’re one of the many people who loves Succession‘s Cousin Greg despite his faults, then you might want to look away now.
The first images have been released from Susanna Fogel’s adaptation of Cat Person, the viral New Yorker short story written by Kristen Roupenian in 2017 — and actor Nicholas Braun’s transformation into the story’s creepy antagonist Robert appears to be complete.
Charting a student’s unpleasant experience dating an older man, Cat Person went massively viral following its publication five years ago, with many people sharing a story that they felt perfectly captured the grim world of modern dating.
Here’s the film’s full blurb:
When Margot (Emilia Jones), a college sophomore goes on a date with the older Robert (Nicholas Braun), she finds that IRL Robert doesn’t live up to the Robert she has been flirting with over texts. CAT PERSON is a razor-sharp exploration of the gender divide, the quagmire of navigating modern dating and the dangerous projections we make in our minds about the person at the other end of our phones.
Alongside Emilia Jones and Nicholas Braun, the movie also stars Geraldine Viswanathan, Hope Davis, Fred Melamed, Liza Koshy, Michael Gandolfini and Isabella Rossellini.
Cat Person will premiere at Sundance in January 2023.
