The Police in Abuja have arrested two notorious armed robbery suspects who, along with other members of their gang, invaded a residence in Asokoro, killed a security guard, stole an unspecified amount of money and stole a car parked in the residence.

Spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, who made this known on Thursday, said one of the robbers was formerly employed by the owner of the premises as a security guard but was later dismissed for negligence.

Adeh said, “Following a complaint that armed robbers broke into a residence in Asokoro area of the FCT in January 2026, murdered a security guard on duty, and carted away an unspecified amount of cash, a vehicle, and other valuables, Police operatives attached to FCT Police Command Scorpion Squad launched an intelligence-led operation to apprehend the suspects.

“Between 12th and 19th February 2026, the operation led to the arrest of two principal suspects: Amaechi Edemba (male, 46) and Kelechi Nwokoro (male, 48) in connection with the incident.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that Kelechi Nwokoro was formerly employed as a security guard by the complainant but was disengaged from service in January 2026 due to negligence while on duty.

“Driven by resentment over his dismissal, he conspired with Amaechi Edemba and recruited four additional accomplices from Nasarawa State to execute the robbery.

“Leveraging his prior knowledge of the premises, Kelechi disabled the CCTV surveillance system and cut off the electricity supply before leading the armed gang into the residence.

“The suspects were confronted by a security guard on duty, Ishaku Marcus, but they overpowered and strangled him to death before carting away cash, jewellery, laptops, wrappers, and a silver Toyota Camry, along with other valuables.

“Upon their arrest, the stolen vehicle and other exhibits were recovered. Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the remaining members of the gang, who are currently at large.

“While commending the efforts of the Police Officer for their professionalism, the Commissioner of Police FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye calls on members of the public to endeavour to profile their domestic staff with the Police before granting them employment.

“He also enjoins the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the Police through the following emergency lines: 08032003913, 08028940883.”
