Nick Fury with his iconic eyepatch

During the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far from Home, it was revealed that Nick Fury has been taking a much-needed vacation in space after he and half the universe got dusted by Thanos. Now he’s back from vacation and has to take on a massive conspiracy of shape-shifting aliens infiltrating human society. Bummer of a first day back.

At Marvel’s D23 Expo panel, the studio finally unveiled to the public its trailer for Secret Invasion, the Disney+ conspiracy thriller that sees Samuel L. Jackson reprise his role as Fury alongside Ben Mendelsohn as Talos. The series also sees Don Cheadle return as War Machine and according to the D23 panel, Secret Invasion will serve as a lead into his own show Armor Wars.

Colbie Smulders and Martin Freeman will also reprise their roles as Agent Maria Hill and CIA agent Everett K. Ross. Kingsley Ben-Adir has been cast as a « lead villain, » and Olivia Colman also joins the MCU as an old ally of Fury’s.

We also got our first look at Emilia Clarke in her, yet-unnamed role in the show, but it is said the role is a major one in the series. Some outlets have speculated that Clarke will be portraying SWORD commander Abigail Brand. In the comics, Brand is a half-human, half-Alien, who inherited an X-gene from her mutant mother and can coat her hands in flames hot enough to cut through metal. Another leak claims Clarke will be playing a Skrull character called G’iah/Gloria Warner, who made their comics debut back in 2019’s Meet The Skrulls series.

Whatever character Clarke is playing remains to be seen, so fans will just have to wait and enjoy other MCU content in the meantime like the recently revealed Werewolf by Night.

As of now, there is no confirmed release date for Secret Invasion. Marvel says it’ll streaming on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
