When my husband and I bought our 1950s bungalow in Austin, Texas, we were two carefree, twenty-somethings. Flash forward a few years and one life-altering global pandemic, and now we have two tiny humans dragging their treasures across every room in the house while we mix our work and personal routines in the same square footage.

While I whole-heartedly want my home to be a creative space for my kids to conduct science experiments, there is no way that this #WFH mom can zone out with a binge-watching session after their bedtimes if I am tripping over Lego creations and unkempt work areas. Our space has to do double duty as a clutter-free space for both active kids and adults who all want to unwind after a long day of carpool lines and zoom calls.

Fortunately, Walmart has entered the scene with an affordable and aesthetically-pleasing collection from the genius duo behind The Home Edit. Here’s how they helped this busy mom maintain my back-to-school-work-life-all the things sanity.

Flex your stack

I recently saw a Walmart study that said 70% of people are unsure of where to begin with organizing. I think they just need to spend a little more time on TikTok (there’s something so satisfying about the click clacking of filling bins, like ASMR for parents), and the #organized hauls will certainly find you. But to make it even easier to get started, Walmart showcases exclusive edits from The Home Edit founders based on room type, such as bathroom, pantry, laundry room, and more.

The durable, acrylic bins come in multiple sizes and are easy to mix and match for your intended use. They also have various sized canisters that feature an airtight seal and are microwave, dishwasher, and freezer safe, meaning one less cleanup worry for this mom. I scooped up multiple edit sets in order to utilize them for everything from toy and art supply storage to snack drawer and lunch prep. They’re also stackable which makes them great for every size space, closet, or under sink situation.

Do it on a dime

One of my biggest roadblocks to figuring out a storage system for all of our, well, blocks, was the price point of so many organization systems. I had dreams of hiring a professional service to overhaul every drawer in our newly expanded kitchen and laundry room, but newsflash, kids are expensive.

Walmart’s Home Edit collection makes having Instagram-worthy cabinets possible at a reasonable price point. An 8-piece modular system racked up a bill of only $24.98, making each bin just over $3 while providing a little clear home for every crayon, paint set, Play Doh kit, and sticker sheet that my children talked me into during our shopping trip. Is it just me or does it seem like there’s always a rogue crayon lying around the house? Parents: Let me know if you can relate.

Peaceful and pretty

A 10-minute meditation in the mornings helps me kick off the day with a clutter-free mind, but as soon as I open that pantry door to pack lunches and backpacks my zen moment slips into a pile of disorganized crackers and pouches. Form and function are a one-two punch that really gets me excited, but my toxic trait is believing that my kids care as much about the decor and vibe of our home as I do.

I felt a massive sense of peace when I was done with my organizing overhaul – the perfect combination of everything stored neatly in a clear and easy to identify manner was really speaking my language. I also now officially understand the hype around color coordinating belongings and sorting by type. Come to find out, our home has more than enough space to store all of our family’s fall necessities. And knowing that our mornings would run smoother was pretty cathartic, too.
