Welp, that was unexpected.
On Sunday’s episode of Doctor Who, Jodie Whittaker’s five-year run as the Time Lord ended how we all knew it would — with her regenerating into a new iteration of the Doctor.
The twist? Rather than turning into Ncuti Gatwa, who was announced as the next Doctor earlier this year, Whittaker turned into…David Tennant.
The man who played the Tenth Doctor, it turns out, will be back for three special episodes next year as the Fourteenth Doctor, before Gatwa assumes his position in the TARDIS after that.
As you can probably imagine, fans were a little bit excited.
