Rumor has it that the next Apple Watch will be a big departure from previous models.
The Apple Watch Series 9, announced just days ago, is old news already. Let’s talk about the next Apple Watch.
Apple cleared the air on the Apple Watch Series 9 at its big iPhone 15 event last week, but rumors are already flying about the next iteration. That makes sense; people love Apple rumors and the Series 9 is not that different from its predecessors, save for the nifty double tap feature.
Let’s not waste any more time. Here’s what we know about Apple Watch Series 10.
Will the Apple Watch Series 10 have a new name?
It’s worth saying up front that we don’t know that much about the next Apple Watch yet, given that it’s at least a full year away from coming out. That said, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (an ever-reliable source of Apple info) gave us a bunch of useful tidbits in an August edition of his Power On newsletter. Namely (pun intended), the next Apple Watch will have a slightly different name.
According to both Gurman and a February research note from tech analysis firm Omdia, the next Apple Watch will be called something like Apple Watch X, or Series X. That is, of course, the Roman numeral for 10, so Apple is going full Final Fantasy with the new watch.
Possible Apple Watch Series 10 design changes
But wait, there’s more! According to Gurman, the Watch X will have a thinner case and perhaps a major redesign regarding how the bands attach to the watch face. Instead of a traditional slide-and-lock mechanism, Apple is considering going with a magnetic system that could potentially free up space for a bigger battery or some other internal improvements.
Another big change is that Apple is reportedly replacing its traditional OLED watch displays with microLED technology. Without getting too deep into the technical weeds of what that means, the difference is that microLED is capable of better color display, better battery life, and better contrast. In other words, it’ll just look better all around. Both Gurman’s newsletter and the Omdia research note back up this rumor.
Apple Watch Series 10 health features
As far as new features go, the only thing Gurman mentions is a blood pressure monitor, which would definitely be preferable to one of those cuff things that squeezes your arm. We’ll have to wait to hear more, though.
And what a wait it will be. According to Gurman, the Apple Watch X won’t launch until 2024 at the earliest, and possibly not even until 2025. Be patient, folks.
