Two Spider-People sit upside down on a building, looking out at a city skyline.

It’s been four years since we accompanied Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) into a web-slinging adventure in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Now, we have our first trailer for the sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. And it was well worth the wait.

The trailer is chock-full of what we loved about the original Spider-Verse film: bold comic book-style animation, characters like Miles and Spider-Gwen (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld), and dialogue that will pull on your heartstrings. That dialogue comes courtesy of Miles’s mother, Rio (Luna Lauren Vélez), who reminisces on Miles growing up from a little boy into a hero. She makes him promise that he’ll protect himself and always remember where he came from.

Are you tearing up yet? Because I sure am.

While quite a bit of the trailer features clips from the first movie, we do get a glimpse at the Multiverse and the plethora of other Spider-People within it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like all the other Spideys are getting along. The problem? The views of Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099 (voiced by Oscar Isaac), on what it means to be a « good guy » seem to clash with the other Spider-People. We only get a quick glimpse of a showdown between him and Miles, but from that alone, it’s settled: We can’t wait.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hits theaters June 2.
