Back in May, Google teased an upcoming Pixel Tablet for release in 2023. Turns out, it still exists.
At its Made By Google 2022 event, Google opened the show by talking about the whole Pixel family, including the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel Watch. While those other devices were the focus of the event, the Pixel Tablet got some time in the spotlight, too. It’s expected to come out in 2023, but Google didn’t share a price or release date.
Just like the Pixel 7 phones, the Pixel Tablet runs on a Tensor G2 chip, so it’ll have plenty of the same performance enhancements as the two flagship Pixel 7 phones. The Material You design language from Android 13 applies to Pixel Tablet and Google said apps are being optimized to run in split-screen mode and work with styluses.
Most importantly, there’s a companion device called the speaker dock. Simply place the Pixel Tablet on the dock and it turns into a miniature TV screen with speakers included. Oh, and it charges the tablet, too, so you won’t need to worry about battery. Unfortunately, we don’t know yet if the speaker dock is included, or if it’s sold separately. But it seems like it might be essential for Pixel Tablet owners who don’t plan on taking the tablet outside the home very often.
It’ll take a lot for Google to compete with iPads in the tablet market, but a Pixel Tablet with the speaker dock looks like it might at least have a fighting chance.
