Ruben Amorim to take reins at AC Milan, set to sign two-year deal

Ruben Amorim is on the verge of a return to the dugout after reportedly reaching an agreement to become the next manager of AC Milan.

The 41-year-old Portuguese tactician, who has been unattached since parting ways with Manchester United in January, is expected to sign an initial two-year deal at San Siro, succeeding Massimiliano Allegri.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Amorim has agreed to a contract running until 2028, which includes an option for a further season.

While the manager initially intended to take a sabbatical after his stint at Old Trafford, the opportunity to lead the seven-time European champions ultimately changed his mind.

The financial terms of the agreement include: base salary: €3.5 million net per season, Performance Bonuses: Financial incentives tied to winning silverware and securing qualification for the Champions League—a competition Milan has missed out on for the past two seasons.

AC Milan briefly considered Al-Ahli’s 38-year-old manager Matthias Jaissle. However, Amorim’s status as a free agent meant Milan could avoid paying a hefty release clause, making him the definitive choice.

While negotiations are virtually complete, the deal is awaiting final approval from Gerry Cardinale, head of RedBird Capital and owner of AC Milan. Once the green light is given, Amorim is expected to fly to Milan immediately to sign the contract and begin planning for the upcoming campaign.

Amorim’s prompt return to management is excellent news for Manchester United’s finances. Following his dismissal earlier this year, the Premier League club was facing a staggering £16.7 million payout to cover the remainder of his contract and his extensive backroom staff.

By stepping into the Milan job so quickly, Amorim will waive a substantial portion of his ongoing compensation from United. This financial boost caps off a highly positive period for the Red Devils, who have already seen a stark turnaround on the pitch under the leadership of Michael Carrick.
