2026 W’Cup Play-offs: Drama as Cameroon coach, federation clash over squad reveal

Tensions are escalating between Cameroon’s head coach, Marc Brys, and the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) just days before the all-important 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs, as a disagreement over the release of the national team list threatens to disrupt preparations.

According to a report by CamerounWeb, Brys has already submitted his list of players for the decisive playoff matches, but FECAFOOT is refusing to publish it until the Belgian coach travels to Yaoundé to announce it officially at a press conference.

“FECAFOOT wants a formal, publicised announcement from its headquarters, requiring the coach’s physical presence,” a source within the federation told CamerounWeb.

However, the Belgian tactician, whose training camp is set to hold in Morocco, where the playoffs will also take place, has reportedly declined the demand. Instead, Brys suggested that the list could be unveiled virtually through platforms like Zoom or Google Meet to save time and focus on preparations.

The standoff has created uncertainty around the Indomitable Lions’ buildup to the playoffs, with concerns that the delay in announcing the squad could disrupt planning and communication with players.

“Marc Brys has no plans to travel to Yaoundé,” the report added, noting that the coach considers immediate operational readiness in Morocco a higher priority than ceremonial obligations.

The Indomitable Lions finished as one of the four best second-placed teams and will face Congo in the semi-final on Thursday, 13 November, in Morocco.
